
There was once a king of Scotland whose name was Robert Bruce.	Ar un adeg roedd brenin o'r Alban o'r enw Robert Bruce.
He needed to be both brave and wise, for the times in which he lived were wild and rough.	Roedd angen iddo fod yn ddewr ac yn ddoeth, oherwydd roedd y cyfnod yr oedd yn byw ynddo yn un gwyllt a garw.
The King of England was at war with him, and had led a great army into Scotland to drive him out of the land.	Roedd brenin Lloegr yn rhyfela yn ei erbyn, ac wedi arwain byddin enfawr i'r Alban i'w yrru allan o'r wlad.
Battle after battle had been fought.	Ymladdwyd brwydr ar ôl brwydr.
Six times had Bruce led his brave little army against his foes; and six times had his men been beaten, and driven into flight.	Chwe gwaith fe arweiniodd Bruce ei fyddin fach ddewr yn erbyn ei elynion; a chwe gwaith fe gurwyd ei wŷr, a'u gyrru i ffoi.
At last, his army was scattered, and he was forced to hide himself in the woods and in lonely places among the mountains.	Yn y diwedd, gwasgarwyd ei fyddin, ac fe'i gorfodwyd i guddio yn y coed ac mewn llefydd unig yn y mynyddoedd.
One rainy day, Bruce lay on the ground under a neglected shed, listening to the patter of the drops on the roof above him.	Un diwrnod glawog, gorweddai Bruce ar y ddaear dan hen sied, gan wrando ar ditrwm tatrwm y glaw ar y to uwch ei ben.
He was tired and upset, and ready to give up all hope.	Roedd wedi blino ac yn ofidus, ac yn barod i roi'r gorau iddi.
It seemed to him that there was no use for him to try to do anything more.	Roedd yn ymddangos iddo nad oedd unrhyw bwynt iddo geisio gwneud dim mwy.
As he lay thinking, he saw a spider over his head, getting ready to weave her web.	Wrth iddo orwedd yn meddwl, gwelodd gorryn uwch ei ben, yn paratoi i wau ei we.
He watched her as she toiled slowly and with great care.	Gwyliodd y corryn wrth iddo weithio'n araf a chyda gofal mawr.
Six times she tried to throw her frail thread from one beam to another, and six times it fell short.	Chwe gwaith fe geisiodd daflu ei feinwe eiddil o un trawst i'r llall, a chwe gwaith fe fethodd.
"Poor thing!" said Bruce: "you, too, know what it is to fail."	"Druan bach!" meddai Bruce. "Rwyt ti, hefyd, yn gwybod beth yw methu."
But the spider did not lose hope with the sixth failure.	Ond ni chollodd y corryn obaith gyda'r chweched methiant.
With still more care, she got ready to try for the seventh time.	Gyda mwy o ofal, roedd yn barod i geisio am y seithfed tro.
Bruce almost forgot his own troubles as he watched her swing herself out upon the slender line.	Bu bron i Bruce anghofio ei drafferthion ei hun wrth iddo wylio'r corryn yn gwthio ei hun allan ar y meinwe.
Would she fail again?	A fyddai'n methu eto?
No! The thread was carried safely to the beam, and fastened there.	Na! Cludwyd y meinwe yn ddiogel i'r trawst, a'i roi yn sownd yno.
"I, too, will try a seventh time!" cried Bruce.	"Byddaf hefyd yn ceisio seithfed tro!" gwaeddodd Bruce.
He arose and called his men together.	Cododd a galw ei ddynion ynghyd.
He told them of his plans, and sent them out with messages of cheer to his disheartened people.	Dywedodd wrthyn nhw am ei gynlluniau, a'u hanfon allan gyda negeseuon o gysur at ei bobl.
Soon there was an army of brave Scotsmen around him.	Cyn bo hir roedd byddin o Albanwyr dewr o'i gwmpas.
Another battle was fought, and the King of England was glad to go back into his own country.	Ymladdwyd brwydr arall, a gyrrwyd Brenin Lloegr yn ôl i'w wlad ei hun.
I have heard it said, that, after that day, no-one by the name of Bruce would ever hurt a spider.	Yn ôl y sôn, wedi'r diwrnod hwnnw, ni fyddai neb o'r enw Bruce byth yn brifo corryn.
The lesson that the little creature had taught the king was never forgotten.	Ni anghofiwyd byth y wers a ddysgwyd i'r brenin gan y creadur bach hwnnw.
